Overview
Over the years Rob has been consulted on many ocasions to provide a professional consultancy service to
individuals and professional agencies including the Police, Social
Services, Television and Radio, victims and perpetrators of crime and many professionals
in the medical and healthcare professions.
Rob has a unique insight and understanding of personality types, human behaviors, psychology, personality disorders, unconscious processes etc, that is not found within 'traditional psychology'* - this is because Rob has spent the last 18 years (36,000 client hours!) using forensic hypnosis and regressive techniques to discover the REAL CAUSES (the genuine unconscious motivations) behind common and everyday problems/symptoms/behaviors.
Forensic and Investigative Hypnosis
'Forensic Hypnosis' is the technical term used to describe specific techniques employed on a person within the hypnotic state, in order to ellicit or establish FACTS or DETAILS about events that have ocurred. This use of techniques under hypnosis falls under the realms of 'forensic', when the FACTS or DETAILS may be used in a legal or criminal case. e.g. A person is the victim of a hit and run accident..... the whole thing is over in seconds and the victim only remembers (consciously) that the car was blue. The use of Forensic Hypnosis techniques may be able to retrieve the make and model of the vehicle, the color of the drivers hair, whether there were and passengers etc - or even the registration number of the vehicle!
Again, as with everything in psychology, different 'schools of thought' have different beliefs, and teach different techniques: some are more effective than others. Rob Kelly is able to bring a totally unique, and far more insightful approach to the use of Forensic Hypnosis thn most, because of his extensive experience: he has helped 'retrieve' information from THOUSANDS of people over the years, and has been able to refine and develop his techniques during this time.
Some examples where Rob has been consulted for the use of Forensic Hypnosis include:
1. Numerous Rape and assault cases, where the victim(s) (due to the savage nature, or speed/type of the attack) cannot remember sufficient information about the attack to either help the Police Investigation, or to help them to resolve the issues/effects of the attack.
2. Many hundreds of historical Childhood Sexual Abuse cases - well over two thousand cases in fact, where an individual is referred to Rob (or self-referrers) because of behavioral/emotional/psychological symptoms that can/will remain many, many years after CSA.
3. Six murder cases (including 'Holly and Jessica', 'Leoni Keating', 'the body in the garden') No more detail can be listed about these cases - for obvious reasons.
4. A case of 'Factitious Disorder', where a major manhunt was established to catch a rapist, that didn't, in fact, exist. Rob worked closely with the Police in designing a strategy to prevent this particular rape from ever happening.....? (A factitious disorder is in the same family of disorders, as 'Munchausens' - in this particular case an English teacher believed she had been the victim of a rape (she hadn't) and was placing herself in dangerous situations where she could become a victim of rape, just to prove the Police wrong.)
5. Various motor-vehicle, and pedestrian accidents.
A very important point to remember in all the above cases (in some cases, more important than the need for facts and details) is that going through the process of forensic hypnosis (the way Rob, and other IAH Members do it) is the very best way of resolving the issues and symptoms surrounding these traumas.... when the person/victim/survivor is able/allowed to re-live the experience fully, in a safe, calm, supported environment, they are able to release and effectively 'get-over' the trauma more quickly and effectively than with any other form of therapeutic help.
Traditional assistance in criminal cases is usually provided by Forensic Psychologists, but, as their physical experience is usually quite limited (how many serial murderers/rapists/paedophiles can any one of these experts have actually worked with?) again they have to fall back on generally accepted rules of behavior, and statistical probablilities that 'modern psychology' tends to lean towards. e.g. 'Most serial killers are white, and tend to kill within their own social group' This statement may, or may not, help in a murder case.
Though Forensic Hypnosis can help in the retrieval of any 'stored information', Rob Kelly (and his associates) tend to specialise in the area of Sexual Crime,
having worked for many years within both statutory and non-statutory sectors, providing services to children (victims and perpetrators) and adults (survivors, non-abusing parents and perpetrators). Professional training has been provided by nationally recognised experts including The Lucy Faithful Foundation, and Ray Wyre and Associates.

* This is because 'modern psychology' is, on the whole, based upon intellectual 'insights' into human behaviour, and does not necessarily stem from actual clinical experience of seeing/witnessing how certain behaviors/symptoms are formed. e.g. When Harold Shipman (British Medical Doctor) was sent to prison for killing many of his elderly patients, psychologists tried to explain his (adult) behaviour, by studying what was known about his childhood. In looking back through what was known about his life, 'they' may have read that he was severly bullied at school, put two and two together, and made five! Because of no other (obvious) evidence that may suggest reason why he later killed people (or any insight into his unconscious behavior) it is accepted that he killed people for this reason. (It was also speculated that he was (a) tryng to 'recreate' the death of his mother, and (B) killing old ladies to 'save the NHS some money')
This 'fait accompli' acceptance of intellectual psychological reasoning (accepting an explanation because it sounds plausible) is one of the main reasons why many 'talking therapies' (including counselling, psychotherapy, analysis....) are sometimes so inneffective: they are not looking in the right place to resolve the problem. A therapeutic example of this is seen in the video below: Alan had suffered for 20 years from very bad IBS and had tried many, many different treatments and interventions in order to get rid of it. None helped. The problem was, that every 'expert' he consulted THOUGHT that they knew what was causing his problem, and treated what THEY THOUGHT was the cause was. As they were wrong, Alan got no better.
Only when he came for a course of 'Pure Hypnoanalysis' - which ALLOWS THE CLIENT to bring up the cause of the problem - did Alan very swiftly resolve his IBS and associated phobias and fears.
